"Disturber of the Peace" - Film Screening - March 12, 7pm
Don't miss this rare opportunity to see "Disturber of the Peace", the unreleased documentary-in-progress on the life and witness of Rev. Canon Malcolm Boyd, pioneering gay priest, activist and author of the 1966 international bestseller Are You Running With Me, Jesus? and many other books. He began serving at St. Augustine's in 1981, a few years after publicly coming out as a gay priest and went on to become a spiritual director and artist in residence for the Diocese of Los Angeles.
From his early days as a Hollywood producer to becoming the 1960's radical "Coffeehouse Priest" and bestselling author, Malcolm's story weaves through the violent beginnings of the Freedom Movement, the contentious eruptions against the Vietnam War and the ongoing struggle for LGBTQIA+ rights. This work-in-progress screening will be in the church sanctuary, followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker, Andrew Thomas. The screening is free and open to the public - all are welcome.
