Guest Preacher 3/26 - The Very Rev. Will Mebane
The Revs Nate and Katie are delighted to welcomeThe Very Rev. Will Mebane who will be joining us this coming Sunday (3/26) as our guest preacher.
Will is the interim dean of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in Buffalo, NY where he has become intimately involved with a number of community and civic organizations addressing issues of social justice and equality. The Coalition for Economic Justice presented him the 2016 “Joan Malone Award” for his efforts in the “Fight for $15” minimum wage campaign. He serves as Vice President of VOICE-Buffalo, and with the Concerned Clergy Coalition of Western New York and the Network of Religious Communities. Previously Will served as canon at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Cleveland, Ohio.
Will sees the commands of Jesus in Matthew 25 as a manifesto for his work as a Christian and is fond of saying, “I have not yet met a cause for justice in which I do not feel compelled to be involved as a follower of Jesus.”
At the national level in the Episcopal Church, Will is a member of the National Executive Council for the Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF) and on the advisory committee for its Palestine Israel Network (PIN). He served on the Episcopal Church's Task Force on the Study of Marriage that led to the adoption of a resolution to provide marriage equality for Episcopalians. Will has also been active in the formation of next generation church leadership having recently served on the Board of Trustees for Berkeley Divinity School at Yale University
Prior to ordination Will had a vibrant business career in broadcasting, holding positions at several radio and television stations. He also founded and operated a management, media and marketing consulting firm and volunteered with non-profit organizations addressing HIV/AIDS, affordable housing, refugee resettlement, education of urban youth and more.
Will holds an M.Div. from Yale Divinity School and a B.A. in Radio, Television and Motion Pictures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Will and his wife Paulette (aka “Ronnie”), a master’s prepared and practicing registered nurse, have parented two sons during their 43 years of marriage.
