At this first service of the Triduum we remember Jesus' last supper, when he instituted the sacrament of the holy Eucharist and washed his disciples' feet. We too will be invited to have our feet washed and wash one another's feet (optional), enacting the servanthood Christ calls us to embody.
Following communion, the reserve sacrament is moved to the Altar of Repose then the clergy strip the high altar. After the service, all are invited to keep silent vigil for an hour, praying in solidarity with Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane.
Bring cut flowers to place on the Altar of Repose.
