Messiah Sing-Along with Baroque Orchestra - Weds Dec. 18, 7:30pm
What's better than listening to Handel's "Messiah"? Singing along, of course! And with an 18-piece baroque orchestra faturing period instruments**!
We will enjoy the Advent portion of Handel’s Messiah, with professional soloists singing the arias and everyone invited to join in singing the choruses. Highlights include "Glory of the Lord,” "For Unto Us a Child is Born," and the grand finale - the "Hallelujah Chorus."
And, the Messiah joy will be preceded by Bach's Cantata 82, “Ich habe genung” (trans. "I have enough" or "I am content”). It is considered one of Bach's most inspired creations, beloved for its profound emotional depth and musical beauty.
All voices welcome! Whether you a spirited singer (even if just in the shower!), a hum-along enthusiast, or someone who simply enjoys great music - come and enjoy this vibrant celebration of the season.
Admission is free. Donations for St. A's music program are welcomed and piano-vocal scores (Novello edition) will be available for purchase.
The evening will be live-streamed on YouTube.

** Sing-Along & Period Instruments
The performance features instrumentalists who recreate the music of Bach and Handel as they might have heard it in the 1700’s. They play “period instruments,” in this case, instruments from the baroque period. Some of the instruments are visually distinct: the trumpets are much longer, the timpani are smaller. The string instruments, on the other hand, look the most like their modern counterparts, but they sound much warmer because of the use of “gut strings,” which are strings made of animal intestines instead of the modern metal or polyester.
Hearing baroque music on period instruments is like finding a pair of shoes that fits just right, a pair that fits so well you don’t even notice you’re wearing them, a pair of shoes that make your feet feel like dancing.
