Toys Urgently Needed for Migrant Children!
On Sunday Oct. 29 and Nov. 5 we will be collecting NEW and UNWRAPPED toys to give to children from the busloads of refugees and asylum seekers who have been sent, unannounced to Los Angeles by the governor of Texas.
They arrive at Union Station after a bus ride that often exceeds 20 hours, sometimes with no food and no ability to leave the bus during the journey. So far, a third of the migrants have been children.
The L.A. Welcome Collective is greeting the buses - providing services, advice, transportation, housing and, more immediately, a warm breakfast, toiletry and baby supplies and toys to entertain the children while their parents sort out travel to their destination. Toys handed out at the welcome venue light up children’s faces and get them smiling through their exhaustion and trauma.
NEW and UNWRAPPED toys are urgently needed!Suggestions:
- Active, creative toys are especially appreciated
- playdough pots
- coloring books, crayons/markers or simple art supplies,
- stuffed animals, dolls
- building blocks
- Baby toys
- Toys for older kids
- cards
- portable game sets like checkers or backgammon
Drop off toys at the table in church entry on Sundays Oct 29 or Nov 5
