World Refugee Day: Immigrant Detention Center Pilgrimage, June 20
A coalition of faith-based groups, including the Diocese of Los Angeles will mark World Refugee Day with God Behind Bars: An Interfaith Pilgrimage to Visit People in Immigration Detention on Tuesday, June 20.
The Episcopal team of pilgrims will meet at our diocesan Cathedral Center in Echo Park and board a chartered bus to the interfaith pilgrimage meeting point at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church, Apple Valley. There pilgrims will learn about conditions within the immigration detention center and to receive tools for visiting detained persons.
The pilgrims will then proceed to the High Desert Detention Center in Adelanto, Calif., where they will hold a prayer vigil and some pilgrims and clergy will visit detainees.
The chartered bus will depart from the Cathedral Center, 840 Echo Park Blvd, Los Angeles at 8am and return at 4pm. A suggested donation of $30 per person includes the bus and a box lunch. For additional information, and to register, click here.
In addition to the diocese and All Saints Church in Pasadena, sponsoring organizations include Clergy and Laity United for Economic Justice (CLUE), Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace (ICUJP), Community Initiatives for Visiting Immigrants in Confinement (CIVIC), Immaculate Heart Community, Inland Coalition for Immigrant Justice, and Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI).
